Beneath Mount Mutria, in the heart of the Sannio region, the porcino mushroom is the common thread linking woods, stables, vegetable gardens and workshops. A portrait of a community that endures thanks to its land, turning every mushroom into work, identity and future.
CONCEPT
Il Fungo Porcino di Cusano Mutri follows, between September and October 2024, the life of a village in the Sannio region that lives in the shadow of its woods and of the king of the forest floor. At dawn, among the beech forests of Bocca della Selva, mushroom hunters search in silence, guard secrets never revealed and celebrate the small triumphs of a harvest. From the pickers' baskets the porcini make their way to roadside stalls and inn kitchens, while Don Domenico's faith and the relic of the Holy Thorn mark the rhythm of the town.
Among beekeepers, mountain potato growers, shepherds and stonecutters who work the village's white stone, the porcino becomes the common thread uniting the small economies of an inland territory. The narrative alternates voice-over, dialogues in dialect and panoramic views of the Matese mountains, up to the great Mushroom Festival: a small mountain village that becomes a privileged observatory of the fragile and precious relationship between humans and nature.
